As part of our Fair Use Policy, intended to prevent any single user from placing an unnecessarily high load on our system, we employ rate-limiting of clicks processed by Campaigns, Tracking Links and Rotators.

The rate limit is 60 clicks per second, which means ClickMagick will process up to 60 clicks per second for your Campaigns, up to 60 clicks per second for your Tracking Links, and up to 60 clicks per second for your Rotators.

Any additional requests will not be processed, and will instead return a “429 Too Many Requests” response.

In over 10 years and 150,000 customers, none of our customers has ever received over 60 clicks per second of legitimate traffic. Generally speaking, there are only two scenarios where this rate limit may be exceeded:

1. Your website or Tracking/Rotator link is under “attack” e.g. a DDOS attack.

2. A misconfigured or malicious bot is sending requests at a very high rate.

In either of these cases ClickMagick needs to protect itself by rate-limiting the requests and you will see a 429 response, or in the case of Campaigns, the clicks simply won’t be processed, for any clicks beyond 60 per second.

This will continue for as long as you’re getting more than 60 clicks per second, and then return to normal operation.
