Why am I seeing Untrackable Clicks or Unattributed Goals?
If you’re seeing Untrackable Clicks or Unattributed Goals, it usually means that you have a setup problem someplace. This article will explain what each error means and how you can fix it.
The project was not in the account
The cmc_project line in your website code or URL is set to a project name that does not exist in your account. This error is almost always the result of deleting a project in your account and forgetting to update the tracking code on one or more of your funnel pages.
The Visitor ID was bad
You can have a bad Visitor ID if you’re using a Campaigns pixel or a postback URL with an affiliate network and the Visitor ID is not set up correctly.
If you’re using Campaigns pixels with your affiliate, read this article to correct your pixels:
The only time you should ever see this error is if you are manually entering or uploading offline conversions. It simply means that the timestamp for the click or goal is in the future. This will never happen when clicks and goals are processed normally by the website code on your pages.
Account was inactive at the time
You can get this error if a click or goal was processed while your account was in a temporarily inactive state, either because you cancelled your account and then reactivated it shortly thereafter, or because your account was paused.
No corresponding click found
When goals are processed, they need to be attributed to the original ad clicks so that you know which ads generated the goal events and sales. If ClickMagick receives a goal but can’t find any corresponding clicks, you will see this error.
It’s normal for ClickMagick to receive goals without corresponding clicks if you’ve reset your project data and deleted the clicks or if you are sending visitors directly to goal pages and are bypassing the pages with the click tracking code.
Because sales are so important to track, if ClickMagick gets a sales goal without a corresponding click, it will create an organic click in the project and attribute the sales goal to that click.
Visitor had cookies disabled
If the visitor has cookies disabled in their web browser, it’s not always possible to accurately track that visitor. This error is simply alerting you to that fact. There’s nothing you can actually do in this case but it’s useful to know about these clicks if you’re trying to compare stats between ClickMagick and your traffic source.
Click ignored: click code on web page twice
This error occurs when ClickMagick receives two identical clicks at the same moment in time. This can happen if you have ClickMagick’s click tracking website code on your page twice. The solution here is to simply delete one of the two pieces of code.
Originating domain blocked in settings
This error means that the click was blocked because it was being reported from a web page other than your own. For this error to occur, you had to have enabled the “Project Domain” feature in the project’s settings. You would use that setting if somebody copied your web page to use as their own, and they copied your website tracking code with it. You don’t want their traffic being recorded in your projects. If you got this error, you had to have enabled the blocking feature at some point. If you don’t remember the details, you can reread this article:
Click blocked by ClickCleaner
Click blocked by ClickShield
Both of these messages are simply reminding you why a click was blocked. These aren’t actually errors—they’re just showing you why certain clicks are getting blocked. ClickMagick shows these to you because we often get tickets from users who ask why they aren’t seeing certain clicks in their stats. It’s because they are being blocked by settings they’ve made in their projects.
