How To Add A ConvertKit Custom Form
Because LeadPages does not currently support using the custom field in their forms, more technical steps are needed to connect your ConvertKit form with LeadPages.
Note: This is going to be a bit more of a technical process than the other forms, and so if you are not very technical it might be a good idea to find someone who can help you, or ask our Helpdesk for help.
1. You’re first going to create a new form in ConvertKit. This is so we can make the form look how we want to integrate with LeadPages properly.
What we did is add a First Name custom field, the Email field, and the cmc_vid field all in the form so it stacks the fields instead of being inline like in previous steps.
2. For the First Name field, click on it and make sure the settings look like this:
3. For the cmc_vid field, click on it as well, and make sure the settings look like this:
4. At the top right of the page, click “Save” and then “Publish”.
5. Choose “HTML” as the embed option and then copy the code to your clipboard
This is where it starts to get a little technical.
6. Add the code to a text editor (e.g. Notepad) because we’ll need to make a couple of edits to the code to make it work properly.
7. Now that you have the code copied into a text editor, find the “First Name” field (you can either try to look for it, or use the “Find” feature – Ctrl+F for Windows, Cmd+F for Mac).
8. Now that you have found the “First Name” field in the code, you’ll need to change the type from “Text” to “Hidden”, like below:
9. Next, you’ll need to find the cmc_vid field in the code. We’re going to make two edits to this one.
10. The first edit is to change the type from “Text” to “Hidden”. The second edit is to add the code value=”[cmc_vid]” in between the placeholder= and type= parameters.
Now we are done with the code edits and need to add the HTML code to the page.
11. Go back to LeadPages and the landing page where you want to place this form.
12. Open up the Widgets on the left and find the “HTML” widget. (You may need to expand the list of widgets to find it)
13. Drag the widget to the part of the page you wish to have the form show up at.
14. Once it’s added, you’ll notice it looks like an empty code block. Hover over the newly placed widget and click on the pencil icon () to add the code.
15. Add the code you modified to the code box inside of the settings, then save your changes.
Once you have saved it, your widget should look like this instead:
If you have done all of this correctly, when you preview the page it should look like this:
And that’s it! You’ve been able to create a new custom form in ConvertKit, edit the code for that form, and successfully add it to LeadPages so you can capture leads with the cmc_vid parameter active!
